Prices
for purified terephthalic acids rose $5/mt to $830/mt CFR China on March 31,
compared to $825/mt March 24. Another reason for price rise in India wasb>
/b>the healthy operation rates downstream in China, which were around
85-90%. This is why prices were strengthening in China, and pushing Indian PTA
prices along. The supply shortage from
domestic sellers was another reason for the price rise in India. A source in
India stated that downstream demand in India was limited partly because the
lower margins downstream and the end of the financial years when most buyers
are mostly uncovered and tend to buy less. The supply
shortage and the rise in China's prices are the main reasons for the price
increase.
