In the European polypropylene market, spot activity declined in the week ended May 29. Consumers are now firmly focused on the month of June due to mixed fundamentals. The supply remained tight throughout the week, but market participants did note some variation between different grades. The domestic supply was still limited due to outages across a number of sites, and imports were scarce despite constant murmurs from market participants about the competitiveness of other regions. Strong freight rates have made imports less attractive to European consumers. In conversations this week, Saudi Arabian material delivered CFR NWE was quoted between $1,255 and $1285/mt of homopolymer, and $1,310-1,330/mt of copolymer, leaving little room for arbitrage.
