US spot exports of polypropylene dropped by
more than $100/mt in the week ending May 10, as supply continued to increase
and buyer sentiment remained lukewarm. On May 9, there were repeated indications that the value of
PP railcars made from homopolymer was 40 cents/lb, and for copolymer PP at 42
cents/lb. The grades were assessed at
$132/mt versus $133/mt a week earlier. Since
April 10, homopolymer prices are down $342/mt or 25%. According to feedback from the market, PP supply is far
exceeding demand. One source stated that
"PP is now long around the globe, mainly because Asia added too much
capacity to PP and economies are not doing well." Sources said that...
