The Asian polystyrene markets continued to
fall in the week leading up to May 24. HIPS CFR China, and SE Asia saw the
largest drop of $35/mt. The GPPS CFR China mark dropped
$10/mt to $1,100/mt. CFR SE Asia followed CFR China. The
domestic price levels dropped by Yuan 200 to 250/mt compared to the previous
week. The high inventory levels continue the pressure
on producers to find sales opportunities. A producer
stated that the market is slow. There is still demand, but customers are only
buying what they need in the short-term. "They
will only buy what they need, and not store more." The
