Asian HDPE Recycled: Stable amid unchanged fundamentals / Slow market activity during the year-end lull / Tight Scrap supply supports prices - Dec 16, 2024

The Asian market for recycled high density polyethylene remained stable in the week ending Dec. 11 due to unchanged fundamentals. The price of recycled high density polyethylene film was stable on a week-to-week basis at $745/mt, FOB Southeast Asia. On Dec.11, the recycled HDPE black blast molding pellets were also stable on a week to week basis at $565/mt, FOB Southeast Asia. The market was slow during the year-end quiet season. There were few buyers ahead of Christmas and Lunar New Year. The tight supply of scrap metal in the world helped to keep prices stable despite weak demand. The government's stricter regulations are making it more difficult to ship scrap material to Thailand and Vietnam.
