Asian HDPE: Weak demand pressures prices downward / High levels of inventory in China / Thin Trading in Southeast Asia - Aug 20, 2024

In the week ending August 14, prices continued to fall due to a combination of weak demand and abundant supply on the Asian market for high density polyethylene. HDPE film was down $25/mt from the previous week to $905/mt CFR Far East Asia, while CFR Southeast Asia marked was down $10/mt from the previous week to $970/mt. The HDPE inventories in China are high. "Downstream demand is poor so [HDPE] pricing is being pressured down," said a Chinese dealer. Sources said that the demand for HDPE was weakest across all HDPE grades. HDPE Injection down $20/mt from the previous week to $885/mt CFR Fareast Asia, on August 14.
