In the week ending July 31, Asian high density polyethylene markets trended down due to a lack of trading and a bearish market. HDPE film CFR Far East Asia was down $10/mt from the previous week to $930/mt, while the Southeast Asia marker fell $10/mt weekly on week to $980/mt. Southeast Asia continues to experience a weakening of sentiment as a result of a combination between uncertain shipping conditions and political tensions. This is affecting demand and purchasing appetite. Sources said that the market was flooded with supply, as Asian producers of polyethylene have diverted cargoes towards the Southeast Asian market due to high ocean freights for deepsea markets.
