Acetic acid and vam prices were stable or lower in Asia in the week ending May 16, due to export pressures from China, large inventories in India, and tight Chinese supplies. A company source confirmed May 16 that Guangxi Huayi, a Chinese AA producer and subsidiary of the Chinese petrochemical group Shanghai Huayi Group took their 700,000 mt/year acetic acid plant offline May 14 due to technical problems. Source: The company's 500,000mt/year AA facility was operating at 60% capacity and will be offline for 10 days to undergo repairs. Market sources reported that other AA producers are preparing to perform planned maintenance, or have just completed scheduled maintenance. They have not yet ramped up to their full capacity.
