Asia polystyrene fell in price during the
week ending May 17, as the demand for styrene monomer and its upstream market
declined. The
general-purpose polystyrene CFR Southeast Asia mark saw the largest drop. CFR Southeast Asia dropped by $65/mt to $1160/mt, while CFR
China fell $35/mt to $1110/mt. FOB China
cargoes are being offered at $1,150-1,190/mt. Domestic prices have fallen Yuan
250 to 350/mt in the last week. The
difference between CFR China's assessment and domestic prices, on a parity
basis with imports, was consistent week to week at around $80-$100/mt. Market sources reported that producers had large inventories
and were searching for new export destinations. CFR China's styrene-monomer price fell to $983.50/mt from
$1,034/mt in May 10, according to market...
