Asian Glycols : Lower MEG inventories support price recovery later in the week / Prices traded in narrow range / Polyester operating rates are largely unchanged from week

The Asian MEG Market traded in a narrow band in the week ending July 26. Prices rebounded later in the day after initially declining due to the inventory pressure. Some market sources reported that offers increased due to lower inventories. The increase in MEG prices for futures also supported higher offers on cargoes denominated in US dollars. The week-to-week price change was however small. Some market sources attributed this to a slow season on key polyester downstream markets. Market sources say that the buying appetite for imported cargoes will still be lower than on domestic markets because these must be bought in advance, and buyers prefer to purchase as needed.
