The Asian glycol markets were sluggish during the week ending October 18, as several participants cited uncertainty due to the fall in crude oil prices. The December ICE Brent futures dropped $3.50/b in one week, to $77.46/b October 18. Market sources reported that the drop in prices affected the trade in key downstream polyester sectors, resulting in a weakening of buying confidence and lower sales volumes in the week. Sources said that stock levels of major polyester yarn and fiber grades increased due to the sluggish trading. Operating rates in the week were estimated to be 92%, the same as the week ending October 11.
