Asian Monoethylene Glycol discussions declined in the week ending February 28, as persistent downstream weakness weighed down on offers and bids. Few deals were made in the week due to a lack of interest from buyers. "Polyester is still in low demand, and bottle-grade plastic chips are oversupplied." "We'll be cautious about MEG purchases until there are clear signs that demand is improving," said a producer of polyester. Although operating rates in China's polyester plants were up on the week, at an estimated 88.1%. However, market sentiment was cautious because downstream demand had yet to manifest itself. MEG trades in China were also very slow last week. Buyers cited the uncertainty of crude oil prices as well as the abundance of supply.
