The price of Asian monoethylene was down in the week ending Sept. 6. Several participants attributed it to the weakening crude oil markets and MEG futures. The November ICE Brent Futures fell by $3.65/b to $73.11/b on Sept. 6. Meanwhile, the currently traded EG2501 dropped Yuan 196/ mt in the same time period to Yuan 4,501/mt. Market sources reported that the support for downstream was minimal, since operating rates in key downstream polyester plants in China were up around 1% this week, to 87%, and the typical peak season had not yet materialized. The market is not confident despite a slight increase in demand for polyester this week. "Some buyers may purchase more in anticipation for the peak season but most buyers approach purchases with caution," stated a polyester manufacturer...
