Asian Glycols: Lower port inventories support discussions / Offers on deep-sea supplies and lower port inventories are higher / Chinese domestic market slows amid lull in polyester season

In the week ending Aug. 2, monoethylene glycols prices in Asia were supported by lower port inventories from China. The deep-sea cargo supply also dropped, which led to sellers increasing their offers for August. The Yuan-denominated price rose Yuan 25/mt per week, to Yuan 4,687/mt. The week's trade in China's domestic markets was a bit dull, as most purchases were made on a need-to basis due to the lull in downstream polyester markets. The operating rates of polyester plants in China decreased slightly to 85% this week, down from 86% the previous week.
