During the second half of the week, key Chinese market participants returned from their Lunar New Year holiday. This boosted activity for Asian monoethylene. As discussions for March cargoes began, some improvement in demand was heard as expectations of the typical peak polyester season drove buying appetite. Due to the uncertainty of demand in March and the yet-to be determined plant operating rates, buyers were cautious when importing March cargoes. One deal was heard in China at $543-549/mt CFR China during this week. On the Chinese domestic market, there was some demand for immediate cargoes. Several deals were heard during the week.
