In the week ending February 14, Asian monoethylene markets were slightly firmer. The CFR China market saw an increase in transactions as the buying interest for cargoes due to be delivered in March was greater. According to sources on the market, the improvement can be attributed primarily to the anticipated onset of polyester's typical peak season. Buyers remained cautious, however, due to the volatility of the crude oil market. The downstream polyester industry was not very supportive, as the demand for polyester was low after the Lunar New Year holiday. A producer stated that key textile manufacturing activities were yet to ramp-up, which contributed to the sluggish polyester trade.
