Asian Glycols: MEG finds support in rising crude / Stable polyester promotes prompt MEG purchase / Import discussion rises for July cargoes

MEG prices in Asia were supported by rising crude oil costs in the week ended June 21. Discussion levels on both the Chinese import and domestic markets increased. Sources said that the relatively stable polyester operating rates, and unchanged demand in China, supported trade activity for prompt MEG deliveries. The lull period for polyester is over, but demand and supply are stable. Plants are still operating at high levels. Some customers still purchase MEG this week on a need-to basis to maintain their plants' performance. As interest in July cargoes increased, so did discussions for MEG imports. The buying urgency wasn't high, as most users were still adequately covered. This resulted in limited deals being done during the week. The prices for DEG and TEG were rangebound.
