The Asian glycols market was quiet during the week of Jan. 31 due to the fact that the major China markets were closed from Jan. 28, as they were celebrating the Lunar New Year. The trade is expected to resume on February 5, after participants return from their holidays. Nan Ya Plastics Corp. has closed its Point Comfort MEG due to mechanical problems. The EG1 unit, which was briefly shut down on January 22, is now running at reduced rates. Meanwhile, the EG2 has been closed since January 26 due to mechanical problems. A source close to Nan Ya Plastics confirmed this Jan. 31. A restart date has not been announced. EG1 can produce 451,000 mt/yr while EG2 is capable of producing 800,000 mt/yr.
