As market participants find themselves at the crossroads of old and newly negotiated Chinese glacial acrylic acids, China's acrylic acid spot demand is still marginalized. A China-based producer stated that "[during this period], spot demand must buy a small quantity at a low cost." A company source confirmed Oct. 18 that Shanghai Huayi shut down their 320,000 mt/y crude acid acid plant on Oct. 8, for planned maintenance. The company source stated that the planned maintenance is expected to last three weeks. The operation rate in China remains high despite the closure of Shandong Huayi. A China-based trader stated that "there is still some profit to be made in GAA... Producers have a strong desire to sell". Demand is not increasing as the weather in China becomes colder.
