Further Switches Heard to Virgin PET / Sheet and tray applications boost demand

European polyethylene terephthalate prices rose in the week ended June 5 due to an increase in demand. As consumers were less willing to pay more for recycled PET, market participants on the continent reported that they switched from recycled PET to virgin PET. The switch to virgin PET was primarily heard in sheet and tray applications as the end-consumer's demand for bottles continued to be weak. The poor weather in Western Europe was cited as one of the factors contributing to the continued low demand for bottles. In contrast, warmer Eastern regions saw a better demand.
