Sources said that the Asian naphtha markets
saw a slowdown in activity on May 25, but sentiment improved as the demand for
naphtha to be used in gasoline blendstocks increased ahead of the US summer
driving season. The
derivatives market reflected a stronger sentiment as the backwardation
increased in mid-afternoon trading on May 25. Brokers set the front-month swap spread for Japan's
June-July naphtha at $1/mt. This was up from 75 cents/mt on May 24, when Asian
markets closed. Participants on the market
attributed the improvement in sentiment to an increase in gasoline demand in
