Market activity on the Asian naphtha was
low May 10, as the market outlook for the short-term remained grim due to a
weak petrochemicals market. Participants
in the market don't expect fundamentals to improve until the end the year due
to a lack recovery in the downstream sector of petrochemicals. The swaps' backwardation decreased in the mid-afternoon
trading on May 10. The front-month swap
spread for June-July Japan Naphtha was assessed at $2.50/mt by brokers, down
from $2.75/mt on May 9, the Asian close. "US
and SABIC (ethylene) cargoes are coming into Asia. "There's going be more pressure, as ethylene will be
more competitive when everyone returns [from the turnaround in June],"
