The activity in Asian naphtha fell into a
lull on April 17, as trading began for the H1 June cycle. This was due to
anemic downstream demand, poor olefins and macroeconomic worries. Fundamentally, there are not many changes. Light
naphtha is still in low demand due to weak downstream demand and poor olefins
margins. A China-based source stated that the low
[downstream] demand could lead to more light naphtha used in gasoline blends. The
derivatives market reflected the relatively balanced fundamentals, as the
backwardation was unchanged at midmorning trading on April 17. Brokers set
the front-month swap spread for May-June Japan Naphtha at $5/mt. This was
unchanged from the Asian closing on April 14. The CFR
