On May 10, China producers sold MTBE cargo on the domestic market instead of the wider Asian market because Asian bids were too low, both FOB China and FOB Straits, and the offers were higher. Sources said that Chinese producers were not making such low offers for June cargo, which was around $880 to $895/mt FOB China. They could sell their cargo domestically for a better price. Source: While some buyers of FOB China cargoes appeared in the market as MTBE began to recover from the bearishness experienced over the last week and a quarter, their purchasing ideas were dismally small and China producers weren't keen to sell.
