Few bids and offers due to lack of direction in the near term / Naphtha drops below $700/mt in day

The level of discussion in the Asian markets for ethylene fell on April 15 due to a deal made April 12 for $915/mt CFR Northeast Asia. Market sources reported that the buying sentiment was weak due to the low demand and poor margins on derivative markets. Selling indications were at $930-$950/mt CIF NE Asia compared to buying indications of $900/mt CIF NE Asia. On a formula-based basis, tradable indicators were heard with premiums between $10 and $20/mt above CFR NE Asia. Buying indications, however, were heard only at premiums below $10/mt. Participants were in a waiting-and-seeing mood due to the uncertainty of near-term directions in derivative markets.
