The spot price of European polyethylene-terephthalate increased in the week ending May 22, as converters continued their preference for virgin product over recycled material, which is more expensive. Recycling company said that consumers were increasingly choosing virgin PET over recycled PET as they took advantage of the lower offers. "A number [of] players [are] [taking] [the] chance to earn [better] margins. Some brands have pledged to use a certain percentage of recycled material, while others, who are quieter, such as small and medium-sized players, take advantage of the current market to increase their margins.
