Asian Purified Terephthalic acid CFR China and CFR India fell $10/mt each and $5/mt respectively in the week ended May 3 due to a slowdown in demand and lower feedstock prices. PTA producers are looking forward to a stronger second quarter 2024, with a healthier interest in buying from downstream markets as well as improved production margins. Sources said that PTA margins for this year have barely improved. A PTA manufacturer in North Asia stated that the downstream market was also struggling with a poor domestic demand from China, which led to an increase in inventories. A PTA producer in North Asia said that PTA producers would reduce their operation rates, which could limit inventories and increase margins. The producer stated that "Q2 should, in general, be better than Q1"....
