European PVC and Turkish PVC: European spot and contract prices are rising as producers strive to increase margins in August / Producers seek to increase margins as monomer prices rise by Eur20/mt / Turkish offers continue to decline amid weak sentiment

The European PVC price ended the week of July 31st stable. However, with monomer prices moving up, producers and market participants planned to increase both spot and contract pricing in August to help restore margins that were hampered by a weak demand cycle over the last year. A producer who had requested increases up to Eur50/mt said it only received an increase of Eur20/mt. This represented a significant margin gain. It said it would still try to obtain the remaining Eur50/mt requested in July, but with the intention of increasing the margins in August. The producer stated that "in July, our numbers showed that our forecast was way above what we had expected -- it's a clear indication of the silos being filled up."
