European PET: Stable to tight supply weighs virgin pricing / Higher freight costs push prices up / UK sees price stability

Supply availability in the European polyethyleneterephthalate spot market influenced pricing in northwestEurope, while the UK experienced more stable pricing on theweek ended June 19.Market participants highlighted the impact of higher freightcosts from Asia on the European PET spot market. The week ended June 19th with higher prices due to the limited imports of virgin PET from Asia and tightness in the purified terephthalic market upstream. A producer stated that "virgin PET quotes are higher because of RedSea problems and PTA shortage... the impact is already seen now." Market sources claim that European producers have sold out of PET for June. However, there are reports of producers who have already booked July.
