European LDPE : persistent shortage of supply supports firm prices / September feedstock prices down by Eur25/mt / Sluggish trading as the month begins

In the week leading up to September 4, the European market for low density polyethylene remained under a tight fundamental supply due to continued low production at home and limited imports. Market sources reported that the European market prices remained firm due to the limited availability of LDPE grades as the month began. On Sept. 2, the feedstock contract price for ethylene had settled at Eur1,215/mt, down Eur25/mt compared to August. This was due to a decrease in the average price of naphtha through August compared with July. Market sources noted that despite a drop in the contract price for ethylene, prices remained stable throughout the week due to tight supply dynamics.
