European HDPE: Spot prices increase amid tight supply / Unipetrol declares force majeure at Litvinov HDPE plant / Sources see increased demand

The European high density polyethylene markets saw a rise in spot prices in the week to July 31, amid tighter supply. the European HDPE injection grade spot price at Eur1,170/mt FD NWE on July 31, up Eur10/mt on the week. Supply of HDPE grades tightened further over the week, with continued limitations of imports from the Middle East amid production issues in the region and with low production rates from European producers. OrlenUnipetrol declared force majeure on HDPE production July 29, following an unplanned shutdown of its steam cracker in Litvinov, Czech Republic. The force majeure is expected to further shorten availability of HDPE grades in Europe.
