European Ethylene - Limited availability on ARG pipeline / Shell Moerdijk cracker back online: sources / Subdued spot trade activity during holidays

In the week ending August 9, the European ethylene markets continued to experience limited availability of spot materials on the ARG pipe due to low cracker runs. Shell's cracker in Moerdijk, which was shut down due to operational problems at the site without warning on August 8, is now back online. According to sources, the outage was brief and pushed buyers onto the market, something that most other producers were not prepared for. The outage, which was unexpected and sudden had a temporary impact on some players in the ARG pipeline. The market was illiquid and the supply of cracker from most other producers was also limited.
