A source said that the fundamentals of the European benzene markets were weak on Sept. 4. The source stated that "poor supply and worse demand" were the main reasons for the market's weakness. On the day, the European benzene markets were reported to have been very liquid. On Sept. 4, benzene was priced at $979/mt CIF-ARA for deliveries five to 30 days in advance, down $9/mt from the previous day. According to the source, the European aromatics markets were affected by the weakness in the upstream market. The source said that "Crude suffered some losses, which were passed on to aromatics".
