The Asian ethylene market was quiet on July 31 due to the volatility of the upstream markets. Sources said that buy-sell signals were stable as fundamentals remained unchanged. The day's buying appetite was low due to weak derivative margins. There were few bids. The majority of sellers maintained their selling indications, citing lower cargo availability in September due to operating rate reductions. Upstream, C+F Japan's naphtha mark was assessed at $661.50/mt per day on July 31. The ethylene-naphtha differential at $198.50/mt is narrower than typical spreads of $250/mt or more for integrated producers.
