Asian Ethylene: Stable amid rangebound trade / Spot supply, Demand Scarce / China's ethylene production is on the rise

Asian ethylene is stable from day to day at $895/mt for CFR Northeast Asia, and $925/mt for CFR Southeast Asia. According to market sources, the CFR Northeast Asia has been fluctuating between $890 and $900/mt for some time now due to the lack of clear direction in the price. According to market sources, spot ethylene cargoes are limited due to the lower number of steam cracker operations. Asian steam crackers are also switching to naphtha from LPG cracking, which has decreased ethylene production yield. The suppliers were unwilling to lower their prices due to the negative margins on ethylene. CFR Japan naphtha prices rose by $2.625/mt per day, to $633.50/mt on Dec. 11.
