Asian Ethylene : Rangebound discussion amid unchanged fundamentals / VAM plant operators are cautious / Activity in Southeast Asia muted

Discussions on the Asian ethylene market were mostly rangebound during the week ended February 28. The tight supply supported the selling indications, while the buying indications remained largely unchanged due to a weak demand in various derivatives sectors. Buying indications for the week were $890/mt or below CFR Northeast Asia while selling indications came in at $920/mt CFR NE Asia. Sources said that demand for ethylene-vinyl acetate, especially for solar panels and shoe foam grades, was strong. The higher operating rates in ethylene-based monomer plants were a result. Some VAM producers were cautious in their ethylene purchases, as demand was uncertain. Southeast Asia remained quiet, with little urgency to buy.
