In the Asian ethylene markets, there were a lot of spot discussions in the week leading up to the 12th July. In the week prior to July 12, sellers maintained their selling indicators. Offers on a fixed-price basis were made at $880-890/mt CFR Northeast Asia, while most formula-based offers were made at a premium of $10-20/mt CFR NE Asia. The high cost of the key feedstock, naphtha, remained a major concern for producers. Several participants cited persistently narrow spreads in between naphtha prices and ethylene. "The prices of ethylene have not been able to catch up with the price of naphtha. This is a major pressure for us as producers."
