Asian Ethylene : CFR NE Asia stable and at a six-month high / Near-term demand is uncertain in the face of new capacity / South Korea shuts down four steam crackers by 2025

The price of Asian ethylene was stable from day to day, at $895/mt CIF Northeast Asia versus $925/mt CIF Southeast Asia on Nov. 27. CFR NE Asia remained at a 6-month high. Recent market sentiment has firmed, mainly due to short-covering activities in light of lower steam cracker operation. Market sources, however, said that such strength was likely to be short-lived because new steam crackers will be launched in China over the next few months. Sources close to Shandong Yulong Petrochemical said that the company plans to launch its new steam cracker in December. The cracker can produce up to 1.5 million mt/year ethylene. The downstream markets did not improve either. The price of polyethylene remained stable from day to day at $910/mt CFA Far East Asia on Nov. 27....
