The European butadiene markets weakened in
the week ending May 19, due to low domestic demand. The FD NWE Butadiene Spot Price fell Eur30/mt
from the previous week to Eur700/mt. The market
was relatively quiet this week, as domestic buyers showed little interest in
additional spot cargoes. Many butadiene users in Europe
reduced their rates and purchased contractual quantities due to the soft demand
for derivatives. Butachimie began maintenance at its adiponitrile
facility in Chalampe (France) on May 18 to further increase demand. The planned
maintenance will last around 50 days. As prices in
Asia continue to fall, sellers were not able to export their products. The
arbitrage window was closed. Butadiene CFR Northeast Asia was
priced $40/mt less than the previous week, at $860/mt. Some
producers chose to co-crack crude...
