EDC stable amid mixed sentiment / Asia PVC-VCM Spread highest since Dec 2022

EDC: Asian ethylene Dichloride was assessed as stable week-on-week at $300/mt for Far East Asia, and $320/mt for Southeast Asia on May 16. Market sentiment was mixed. The price of feedstock ethylene continued to fall, as the CFR Northeast Asia price fell $5/mt in a week to $855/mt. Commodity Insights' data shows that the downstream polyvinyl-chloride market has firmed up. The CFR China PVC prices rose $10/mt in a week, to $785/mt, on May 15. Some market sources, however, said that PVC demand was still sluggish, and the recent increase in Asian PVC prices was more a result of firm freight rates than a strong demand.
