Asian EDC/VCM/Chlorine Prices: EDC and VCM prices remain stable this week despite limited spot buying activity / Poor downstream demand plagues the market / Sentiment heard as stable but weak

On July 25, Asian ethylene Dichloride Prices were unchanged on the week, at $310/mt CIF Far East Asia. They were $340/mt CIF Southeast Asia. This was due to the poor demand for vinyl chloride monomer in Asia as well as polyvinyl Chloride. The upstream ethylene price remained stable on the week, at $857/mt for Northeast Asia. Data showed that the cost to produce VCM using EDC and Ethylene was $642.98/mt. This is unchanged from the previous week, but lower than the current VCM CFR Asia prices of 680/mt. Commodity Insights' data shows that the cost-based values for NE Asia were 45 cents/mt, unchanged from the previous week.
