Sources said that the East-West spreads for
naphtha were lower on May 24, due to the poor demand in Asia. The weakness in the Asian
market, particularly amid thin margins in petrochemical plants and maintenance,
combined with a stronger sentiment in Europe, continued to push East West
spreads into contango. The spread for the
front-month fell by $4/mt in one day, to be minus $8/mt. The stronger sentiment was also reflected by the Markets on
Close process assessment, where two outstanding bids were recorded. One source said, "We went from negative $3/mt in
structure [cash difference] to positive $3/mt in a few weeks and it's reflected
