Naphtha East-Wests -- The spread between
the CFR Japan naphtha cargo exchange and the CIF NWE equal -- fell to historic
lows on March 28, under pressure from French strikes. The front-month East-West
spread was down $5.25/mt or $14.25/mt, a new record. The May spread was down by
$3.25/mt or minus $7.75/mt. Sources
report that buyers are actively looking for cargoes on the physical market,
despite the supply shocks. A source stated
that while there is decent petrochemical demand, Lavera is under pressure due
to the strikes in France. Sources said
that naphtha cracking margins for naphtha were just above $0/mt while LPG was
at $300/mt. A third source stated that
