The Naphtha East Wests, the spread between CFR Japan
naphtha swaps and CIF equivalents of NWEs, reversed course on April 25, and
fell back into the negatives amid a weakening sentiment in Asia. Front-month East-West
Spread was assessed at minus 3 mt, down $4.25-5.50/mt. Sources say that downstream demand in Asia remains sluggish
due to weak industrial activity and high turnarounds at petrochemical plants in
the region. Sources said that May loadings
to Asia from the Mediterranean were "done" due to a difficult
arbitrage because of the negative spreads. Many cargoes are actually heading to
