Propylene prices rose on June 20th due to
an increase in crude oil prices and a pickup in demand. The Chinese spot glut has also eased. The August
ICE Brent crude futures contract at 4:30 pm Singapore time was $0.36/b higher
than the previous Asian closing at $86.61/b, at 830 GMT. CFR China
propylene at $735/mt on June 20, up $10/mt on the day, while the Asian
polypropylene-propylene spread stood at $75/mt, well below the typical
breakeven spread of $150/mt. The market opinion is divided on
whether China's decision to cut its key lending standards in order to shore up
