February 27 saw the Asian propylene market
fall as an oversupply in downstream polypropylene markets has hurt buying
sentiment. The downstream polypropylene market
continues to suffer from low demand, and futures prices have fallen below the
Yuan 7,900-7,980/mt mark. Sources said that the weakening of
the yuan against US dollars has further discouraged propylene spot activity.
Overall trade levels are already slowing as March cargoes have been purchased. Market
observers pointed out that price drops are unlikely because of supplier cost
concerns. However, some supply tightness can be expected from South Korean
cargoes as major South Korean suppliers are scheduled to make turnarounds in
