European benzene prices rose during the
week ending March 24, as price gains in upstream crude markets lent support,
while downstream styrene costs increased due to a possible supply disruption. The five to thirty-day forward delivery schedule
for benzene was $966/mt CIF AR, which was steady on the day but up $62.25/mt
over the week. The crude oil prices in the upstream took a hit
at the start of the week but then moved steadily upwards. The news of
a downstream power majeure on polystyrene by TotalEnergies, resulting in
possible disruption to logistics in France, saw styrene prices move upstream. Market
