US benzene prices retreated June 23 after a
flurry of trades were reported for June and July at lower levels. July DDP and July FOB both
down 7 cents on the day at 281 cents/gal and 291 cents/gal, respectively, June
23. Trades were reported for July DDP at
280-281 cents/gal, while July Lower Mississippi River also traded at 282
cents/gal DDP. Benzene prices have been
pressured lower since mid-April by soft downstream demand, with sources
reporting in recent weeks that downstream styrene production is at reduced or
minimal run rates. At the same time,
downstream demand for cumene, aniline and cyclohexane is also low, a source
