- Downstream demand is weak- DCE futures drop Yuan 25-30/mt in a week

The monoethylene
glycol prices in Asia were unchanged on May 10, based on discussions that
prevailed. Actively traded September MEG Futures at the Dalian
Commodity Exchange dropped Yuan 25-30/mt in the past week, settling at Yuan
4,292/mt. Since 2021, the margins for
polyester downstream have been below break-even, which has put pressure on
producers due to high prices upstream, traders reported. The operating rates for polyester have been reduced to
control inventory, but despite a slight improvement in the domestic market,
there is still an oversupply owing to a weaker export demand. End-users reported that the recovery of downstream demand is
slow. Many finished goods plants are not operating at full capacity.
