Domestic China mixed xylenes drop / Paraxylene dips $2/mt

Asian mixed isomer xylenes, which are a mixture of isomers and unimers, fell by $1/mt on May 14, from $931/mt to $947/mt at CFR Unv1, and were assessed at $927/mt at CFR China. This was due to a bearish outlook with a weaker downstream market and lower demand. Paraxylene dropped $2/mt to $1,001/mt for CFR Unv1/China on May 14 as the downstream market struggles with excessive inventories and rate cuts. Support from gasoline has also weakened. However, market sources claim that up to 60,000 mt isomer-MX could be shipped to the US from South Korea in May. Around 40,000 mt was heard to have been shipped in the first ten days.
